Working Student (m/f/x) Software Engineering

XING Marketing Solutions is responsible for turning data into services and products. Data scientists, architects and developers across different units within New Work SE work together to create highly scalable solutions that serve about 18 million users. We work with the latest technologies in a highly international environment. Currently the Marketing Solutions unit develops and maintains a self-booking advertisement solution and implements exciting new advertising formats. To support us in our ongoing development, we are looking for a Working Student (m/f/x) Software Engineering.

A challenging task

  • Support our engineering team with its focus on Scala-based backend services that enable delivery of native ads for social advertising on the XING platform.
  • Tackle engineering challenges that go along with building distributed systems at scale (high availability, high throughput, low latency).
  • Learn to build reliable distributed services using Scala and the Play framework that integrate with different storage solutions (Postgres, Redis, HDFS) and messaging systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ).
  • Get to know state-of-the-art build and deployment instrastructure for DevOps based on Jenkins and Kubernetes.
  • Work as part of our team: you will be fully integrated into our agile team and have a mentor providing support all along the way.


A convincing background

  • You are passionate about programming and you are eager to learn more about how to you can work together with our team to engineer scalable solutions in an industry context.
  • You have a solid understanding of fundamental computer science concepts and you can reason about algorithms and data structures.
  • You have a good level of programming experience with at least one JVM-based language (Scala is a plus).
  • You have good knowledge of SQL and you are familiar with version control systems like Git.
  • Familiarity with the functional programming paradigm is a plus.
  • You speak English fluently (German is not required).
  • You are available to work from our Hamburg offices for most of your working hours.
